Our ancestors in Ayrshire lived and worked in the various towns and parishes throughout the County. Researching our roots is not complete without seeing where they lived and understanding the history of the towns. It is hoped eventually to have old and new views of all the Ayrshire towns together with details of their past industries and history. Each town has a link to the appropriate Old-Map site where you can explore the town and surrounding area as it was in 1860. Most towns have the 1837 Directory compiled by Pigot where he gives a detailed description of the town and lists the gentry, shopkeepers, schoolteachers, ministers and local tradesmen. There is also a link to the appropriate GenUKI page for the town where you may find further historical details. Each town has a link to the Multimap website page for the town. There you can see where the town is in Ayrshire, and zoom in to the street level or pan to explore the surrounding area. These new larger maps have a fantastic amount of information contained within them. Genealogical information will be added to the towns as it is researched or submitted by yourselves. Links will take you to any local websites where they exist (please send any links to have them included) If you have any 'old views' of Ayrshire towns or interesting historical articles we would love to include them in the relevant Town Page so please contact us.
A vision of Britain through time A vision of Britain between 1801 and 2001. Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
